Congress is fiddling around not while Rome burns but while millions of families wonder if they are going to be laid off for a little while. I am speaking of federal employees. I know one of them very well.
A temporary spending bill will fund the government until Tuesday. After that, it’s always about egos and drama with those knot-heads in Congress. Some would like to shut the government down just to make a point, all about the deficit. The Republicans have all kinds of people stirred up about that deficit. That is because that is the only issue the party seems capable enough on which to win,
After Tuesday, who knows? Perhaps another continuing resolution? Meanwhile, millions of families wonder about real dramatic issues like eating, the rent, paying the bills like those for electricity and heating oil.
What an ego one must have to hold the lives of millions of families in financial limbo all for some phony issue du jour. The Republicans or Democrats haven’t seemed in a real hurry to do anything about the deficit until the Tea Partiers starting making it this big boogie man.
Remember, when you don’t have a war to get voters stirred up — we’ve got two but we’ve had them so long no real ire has yet arisen — then find a fiscal deficit. What bullshit.
