The relatively new U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service headquarters at McFaddin Wildlife Refuge and Beach in southern Jefferson County, Texas, offers hardly any refuge at all courtesy of Hurricane Ike.
LIVE FROM MCFADDIN BEACH (Well, I was a bit ago)
I dropped off a couple of grills, several bags of charcoal, lighter and work gloves at the disaster recovery center at Sabine Pass. What a mess that town is. More on it later as I will stop and take some photos on the way back.
But I just had to see what Ike did to my beloved McFaddin Beach. I didn’t really figure I would get all the way out there. I did, however, and found a few folks who are damning the damage and enjoying the beach. It isn’t a pretty sight but it’s better than I thought it would be.
Still people find some comfort among the Gulf waves near the closed Sea Rim State Park boundary with the closed McFaddin Beach.
