Paint it black, just not your turkey

History repeating itself is not always the best road to travel especially when traveling down that road with combustibles and a big damn turkey.

Six years ago I was living with my good friend Ross who had one of those super-duper stainless steel grills out back on his patio. Being it Thanksgiving, Ross decided he was going cook a turkey on his super silver stainless steel grill. I got to admit the grill was beaut.

I went out somewhere for awhile that day with the lady I was dating at the time. When I got back to the Ross-i-dence, I could hear my bud say something like “Go check out the turkey.”

Thanksgiving 2006. A day which shall live in infamy.

Well, check out the turkey I did. And I decided right then and there that the turkey that day was done for certain.

The words I wrote that day are as apt today as they were nearly 2,200 days ago:

” … I think undone turkey can cause some kind of virus in which a person goes running around in a circle with his or her arms flapping up and down to the point that the person has to be shot to put them out of their misery. I think that’s why some people say improperly cooked turkeys can be dangerous.

“So make sure your turkey is properly cooked. At least 1,600 degrees is recommended. If you see the stainless steel on your grill disintegrating (see turkey photo), then you know you are on the right track.

“Have a happy and safe Turkey Day.”

And eat up boys and girls. There is probably an IHOP open somewhere.

Electionzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

CNN says this, people on Twitter say that. Romney leading 73-64 electoral votes, according to Volfven Bleetzer, CNN. There is too much information especially when you didn’t major in mathematics, statistics, physics, astronomy or you are just a good ol’ boy like me.

No storms among the calm

Howdy, from the public library. The respite from my personal computer — my work-furnished computer and Blackberry are off-limits for most personal uses — has been on the calming side. The exception to my calm are those times when a surging urge to write and publish something seizes the inner-workings of my noggin. The “Binders of women” comment by Mittens Romney in this week’s presidential debate comes to mind.I am hoping though that my new laptop shows up sometime within the next week since I am on annual leave until the end of the month. I mean, a man can only endure so much calm.

I have been following news the best I can by reading a newspaper here and there. Then, there is television. The cable news outlets just want to draw out the horse race in the election for as long as possible. A little entertainment comes elsewhere here and there but the closer the election day draws near the more the entertainment aspect becomes a rarity.

Of course, I’ve also watched football. I was disappointed in the 42-24 loss to Green Bay by the Houston Texans on Sunday night. The Texans clearly were outplayed by the Packers. And even though Houston had been unbeaten up to that point I didn’t believe they could go on forever without a “L.” In fact, I fully expect Baltimore to beat Houston this week although a regular-season-ending injury to Ravens beast of a linebacker Ray Lewis could lessen the chance of a Baltimore win at Reliance Stadium. With that said, I still see the Texans making the playoffs and possibly facing Baltimore for the AFC crown, a repeat of the 2012 playoff game when the Ravens won 20-13. Lewis could be back for that game. It all depends on recovery from his torn tricep and the surgery to fix up his beast of a boo-boo.

It’s a beautiful fall day outside. It’s sunny and 78 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The temp could fall to as low as 49 tonight, although I plan to be covered up and in dreamland when that happens. For now, I think I shall get into the outdoors and try to enjoy my first day of leave even though I have no plans to go anywhere, nor money to facilitate going anywhere. Same song, different verse.

Down time

Hi boys and girls. It’s that time again. No, not vacation. It’s time to get my damned computer fixed. I woke up yesterday morning and when I turned on my HP “G” Series Laptop, I got a black screen. That’s it. I restarted it and I got a black screen with a cursor at the top and a very aggravating pinging noise.

Luckily, it’s still under warranty. I say luckily, I hope they don’t find some problem that isn’t covered. If they do, which I don’t know why they would other to be d***s, I will be very, very unhappy. That means slightly more unhappy than I am at this time, back in my public library.

See you all in a week if not sooner, I hope.
